With Halloween just around the corner, kids (and parents) everywhere are thinking of the perfect costume. But finding that perfect costume is sometimes easier said than done. Balancing creativity, comfort, warmthdecorative pillow shams, and even safety can be challenging, especially with younger kids like I have. To help you and your kids in this quest for the best costume, here are some tips and ideas that may help you out:

Good news is that there will be no need for negotiating with your baby about their costume – trust me, this will change when they get a little older! For me, warmth and comfort were priorities. My daughter spent her first Halloween asleep in her stroller in a bunny bunting passed down to me from my sister-in-law. My son was born a few weeks before Halloween, so I put an orange hat on him and called him a pumpkin as he slept in my?ERGObaby Carrier. ?Perhaps these were not the most creative ideas, so here are a few others to consider:

Once your little one can walk, the main goal is for the costume to be comfortable and easy to keep on.? Your little one’s favorite character may be a safe way to go, but try to keep it as simple as possible. You want to stay away from toddler costumes that are bulky or that have too many zippers and snaps. Your toddler will probably last a lot longer in a toddler costume that allows a lot of movement and a lot of breathing room.? Check out these:

Your preschooler’s mind is always going.? It amazes me the amount of information they are retaining and their curiosity.? I think this is a good opportunity to dress them as an everyday hero like a policeman or a doctor. They learn a little bit about some noble professions, plus it’s never too early to do some career planning!

To make sure that you have the greatest selection to choose form when it comes to trick-or-treating on Halloween it is important that you start looking for your costume early. Even if you get it early, you can let your little one wear the costume before Halloween to make sure that he or she is used to and likes to wear it. This makes it much easier when Halloween actually comes and your toddler needs to put on the costume.

Hopefully you can use some of these ideas to come up with the perfect costume. Tune back in next week when we discuss ways to trick your kids into sharing their Halloween candy with you.

A holiday that is fun, full of surprises and safe is what you want for your little ones.

Many times, I just need a small container for my phone and my ID, and it has to be able to go through a little wear and tear. ?Looking through the remnants section of my local fabric store, I found some teal poly vinyl so I decided to make a waterproof pouch for my cell phone and the few cards I usually carry. ?I first made an unlined version (, and then I decided to take it up a notch with a second version and added some medium weight cotton lining.I hope you find this helpful! ?All of this tutorial can be made on a standard sewing machine, but for ease, I would suggest making this version on a walking foot industrial sewing machine.I made this at TechShop!TechShop Pittsburgh: homepage:
